By halfway through 2026, the next generation Mahindra ute, currently called the Pik-Up, will be in Australia.

Mahindra already pulled the sheet of its new ute concept earlier this year, showcasing a cutting-edge ute perfectly suited for Australian conditions.

The concept version of the new ute takes some styling cues from the tough Scorpio 4×4 SUV, which we also have available here at Eastside Mahindra. The ute will differ, though, with some new design and options that suit the purpose of a ute.

Speaking to multiple media at Mahindra’s Research Valley in India, an executive of the global carmaker confirmed that the model is going into production. However, we expect now that the ute will use a new platform underneath compared to the Scorpio – despite being style conscious of the 4×4 wagon.

Differentiators between the two will likely include changes to the wheelbase which would be longer for the tray-back utility, how the suspension operates and its geometry given the chassis changes, and also its off-road credentials like ground clearance and overhangs.

What’s not known yet is the motivation for the new ute, although we can fully expect diesel – the overarching choice for utes in Australia – to be the stalwart offering. A hybrid or PHEV option could also be in the works, although that is very much in the speculation phase. As for the diesel motor, we could expect Mahindra’s familiar 2.2-litre mHawk engine deployed in the Scorpio to be the choice, with a potential power and torque increase for even greater capability.

Mated to either a manual or automatic transmission, providing some choice for customers, this combination should provide a top shelf 3500kg braked towing capacity and great payload. With a variety of body styles available – such as dual-cab and single-cab chassis – this will provide practical solutions for tradies, weekend warriors, and touring families.

Another boon is that Mahindra’s state-of-the-art technologies will be incorporated into the ute. This includes current safety systems Mahindra has such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and other smart driver assistance. The interior will also be a comfortable and exciting space, with Mahindra offering twin and triple screen entertainment and information displays in its current model, likely to be used in the upcoming ute.

We are yet to have all the official details, such as what it will be called and the on-sale date, but expect something to be landing here at Eastside Mahindra in about mid-2026.
